I Miss When AI Meant Adobe Illustrator

I remember last year in my Special Topics class, my professor had us analyze AI, whether it would help or destroy our careers as designers. At the time, I didn’t think it was fair (and I still don’t, honestly) that AI seemed to replace art first, instead of starting with the boring, menial tasks. But I think I’ve finally made peace with it. As an artist, I don’t really feel threatened. My style isn’t exactly “AI-able,” and AI art enthusiasts aren’t my target market anyway. As a designer, I see AI as just another tool, something to make the daily grind a little easier. Still, I do miss the days when I didn’t have to clarify to clients that the AI tool I’m using is still Adobe Illustrator.

But anyway. In order to stay ✨relevant✨ in this fast paced industry, we need to adapt. As long as clients still can’t decide what they really want, designers aren’t going anywhere.
